Practical design resources

I’ve relied on these practical resources many times in my career.

  1. Erik D. Kennedy’s blog is the best collection of practical articles about visual design on the internet.
  2. The HeyDesigner newsletter has helped me to keep up to date with the design community.
  3. I haven’t found a better collection of visual design inspiration than Lapa.
  4. If I need to look at screenshots of apps that are not easy to access, I use Mobbin. This is a paid service.
  5. When I wanted to read a book about a specific topic I turned to Chris Oliver’s excellent The Monster List of UX Books
  6. If I want to know the best way to approach an interaction design problem, I first check NN/g.
  7. If I’m not sure what icon will best represent a concept, I type the concept into The Noun Project.
  8. If I need to figure out what colour to use for a concept I type the concept into Picular.
