Recognition

Audiences often intuitively recognise well-crafted artefacts. Some set of the characteristics in this book make themselves known. These characteristics and the total effect are respectable.

A well-crafted artefact may seem “self-assured”. This is appeal as a by-product, not a goal, of the making process.

This can mean a good reputation for the owner. They own something rare, valuable.

Well-crafted artefacts set a standard for the audience. “Our friend has a very nice fruit bowl. Now ours looks cheap.” More generally, good craft makes an impact on the audience.
